Japanese Handcrafted Carving Chisel Set 10 pcs – | Hand Forged Nomi for Fine Wood Carving,
Product Details
This set of 10 Japanese hand-forged carving chisels offers extremely sharp, fully re-sharpenable laminated blades with high hardness and outstanding durability. Designed for professional carving use. Handmade in Japan using traditional local craftsmanship.
Traditional Japanese chisels are produced by laminating soft and hard steel. The body is made from a softer material to absorb hammer strikes (when fitted with a hoop), reduce the risk of breakage, and allow easier sharpening. The cutting edge, however, is made from extremely hard carbon steel – reaching up to 62 Rc for classic Nomi chisels and up to 67 Rc for chisels with HSS blades, while standard European chisels usually reach only 58–60 Rc.

Most of the unique Japanese tool sets in our collection are produced in small, limited series, making them highly sought after not only by professional craftsmen but also by collectors. We import these tools directly from Japan, from local artisans who have been dedicated to traditional toolmaking for generations.
Minor imperfections may be present, and some tools may even be several decades old – but this does not compromise their quality or strength. On the contrary, Japanese steel often improves its properties with age.
As in Europe, the demand for traditional handmade tools in Japan has been steadily declining, and unfortunately, the number of master craftsmen is rapidly decreasing. The average age of these makers is around 70 years, and their production capacity shrinks year after year despite very high demand.
